Healthy Habits for Summer Travel

Summer is the peak season for travel, whether it’s a beach vacation or exploring a new city it is important to keep your health in mind while on the go. Here are some tips to stay healthy during your summer travels:

Stay Hydrated:

Consuming enough water is vital for overall health, especially during travel. This can prevent headaches and constipation and improve your energy levels. Flying can be dehydrating due to the low air pressure inside an airplane so staying hydrated is important. An easy way to ensure you are drinking enough water is to bring a reusable water bottle with you during your travels and if you will be flying, leave it empty and then fill it up after airport security.

Good Hygiene:

Packing hand sanitizer and washing your hands often will reduce your risk of catching an illness on vacation. While traveling you are exposed to new environments and people, increasing the risk of getting sick. If traveling by airplane you can wipe down your seat and other surfaces with disinfectant wipes to avoid germs.

Protect Your Skin:

Applying SPF regularly throughout your trip, especially if you will be outdoors will protect your skin from sunburn. Shielding your skin from the sun with a hat, sunglasses, and lightweight clothing are great ways to limit exposure. You should apply Aloe to help the skin heal if you suffer a burn.

Get Enough Sleep:

Traveling disrupts your usual sleep schedule so it is important to get enough sleep while on the go, this strengthens your immune system to avoid getting sick. Jet lag also affects your sleep routine, so it is important to be mindful of your sleep while adjusting to time zone changes. Using melatonin can help your body adjust.

Bring a Health Kit:

It can be useful to pack common medications and products to address common health concerns. Over-the-counter medications like Advil or other pain relievers are helpful while on the go and Antihistamines can relieve motion sickness. A travel-size first aid kit with bandages comes in handy with any scrapes or blisters.

Listen to Your Body:

If you are feeling overly tired or not like yourself, your body needs a break. Pushing yourself can lead to illness and it is important to listen to your body’s way of telling you that it needs rest to be able to enjoy the rest of your trip.

With these healthful habits, you can enjoy your summer travels and ensure you will return home feeling refreshed. Safe travels!
